Exploring STEM

Students explore interdisciplinary STEM problems via project-based learning. Students interact with STEM disciplines while creating simulations via a low-text code editor appropriate for middle school students. Interdisciplinary projects include explorations of :

  • Geometry

  • Algebra

  • Optics

  • Kinematics

  • Biology

  • Cryptography

In one project, students will learn about an ecosystem’s food web and the relationships between predators, prey, and scavengers. They will then program a simulation of the African Savanna and its animals. In another project, students will learn about polygons before building a program to draw different polygons on screen and calculate perimeter and area.

Students will also learn about data security and digital citizenship. Examples of data security lessons include password management, phishing, ransomware, and safe browsing practices. Students are equipped to work with school technology safely and responsibly.
